INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING SERASUB®

TO MAKE YOUR OWN CONTROLS OR STANDARDS

For Hospital, Reference Lab Personnel

When you purchase controls/standards from outside manufacturers you pay a premium price. You pay 50 to 100 times more than what it would cost you if you made your own. Until the development of SeraSub® and UriSub®, it was a very difficult, time consuming process to make your own standards and it made perfect sense to purchase ready available controls.

However, now that you have SeraSub®/UriSub® you do not have to purchase expensive controls. You can make your own and keep them for years to come.

The following is a simple procedure for making your own controls:

For Haptens: (Small molecular weight substances such as T4, T3, B12, Folic Acid, Cortisol, Testosterone, Estriol, Theophylline, Tobramicin, Digoxin, Drugs of Abuse and so on).

If the analyte is soluble in water or buffer, dissolve the appropriately weighed amount into a minimum amount of water or buffer. Then make serial dilutions using SeraSub® and UriSub® as the case may be. Store these controls either at room temperature or refrigerate.

For Antigens: (Proteins, Enzymes)

The controls can be prepared for proteins, enzymes, in the same manner as described for Haptens. Some of the antigens are not water soluble and need to dissolve in organic solvent, or alkaline solution. Prepare a concentrate solution of antigen using the solvent which is most appropriate. The concentrate solution then should be diluted in a similar manner using SeraSub® and/or UriSub®.

If you have any problems or have specific questions on how to make the controls, please contact the technical director: Contact Form
